We are devastated to have to pass on the sad news that Kanysh Nurtazinov, an Ohotzooprom ranger has been killed by poachers.
The Kazak president, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has expressed his condolences and declared that Nurtazinov will be awarded posthumously.
It has been reported that in Zharkain district of the Akmola region, two inspectors sustained gunshot wounds on Tuesday when they were trying to detain poachers and prevent them from killing saiga antelopes.
Nurtazinov, who was only 43, tragically passed away before paramedics could tend to his injuries. He is survived by his wife and four children.
