Elena receives the award for the Saiga Day programme.
On December 20th 2013 the best Uzbek environmental initiatives of the year were announced at the ‘Reduce your environmental impact’ event in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The competition was held by the Committee for Nature Conservation of Tashkent city, in collaboration with the NGO «Ekomaktab».
We are delighted to announce that the ‘Best Environmental Programme’ of 2013 was awarded to our very own “Saiga Day” festivities which are held in villages in the Ustyurt. Elena Bykova and Alexander Esipov in-country SCA members, work tirelessly with colleagues in Uzbekistan to make the celebrations such a success, and we congratulate them on receiving official recognition for their work.
Elena comments “Our Saiga Day celebrations appeal to young and old alike, which is why they are so popular. Recently we launched a network of Steppe Wildlife Clubs for teenagers which focus on nature conservation, and in particular that of the Steppe species. The members of these clubs did a wonderful job of helping us throw such incredible celebrations on Saiga Day this year”.
