The most responsible and dangerous rangers’ duty is patrolling. Patrols in Stepnoi Reserve happen every day – 365 days a year – with no exceptions. For the territory a little smaller than New York there are only 12 rangers. Rangers work in shifts lasting three days so during the shift they live in the Reserve.
All the rangers are professional motorcyclists. Some of them became ones after they started working in the Reserve. This is necessary because poachers ride motorbikes on the steppe so you cannot chase them any other way.
No matter, heat or frost, rain or sun, day or night — rangers keep an eye on the Reserve territory. As a result of this constant hard work, there were no cases of poaching on the Reserve territory since 2011.
This short video will remind you of different rangers’ activities in the Stepnoi Reserve.
