Position Title: Finance Assistant for Saiga Conservation Alliance

The Saiga Conservation Alliance (SCA) is a based in the United Kingdom non-profit, non-governmental organization for the conservation of the saiga. Since 1998, the Alliance has been cooperating with international donors and organizations, as well as with partners in the saiga range countries – Kazakhstan, Russia, Uzbekistan, and Mongolia – implementing various projects.

SCA core and project activities have a lot to do with finance – managing expenses, reconciling transactions, budget planning, and preparing financial reports for regulatory authorities and donors. The SCA is looking for a Financial Assistant to carry out these ongoing financial activities.

Report to: SCA Programme manager, SCA Chair.

Key responsibilities are:

Participate in budget planning and management, and recording of spend against budget.

Interact with project teams to ensure that spend is aligned with budget and reporting is completed in the required time frame.

Interact with banks and with our field teams to ensure payments are made appropriately and in a timely fashion.

Collect all the necessary invoices, receipts, and other documentation needed for processing payments and reporting.

Update financial spreadsheets with transactions.

Track and reconcile bank statements.

Prepare financial reports – both project-related and related to funder and Charity Commission requirements.

Qualifications Required:

Education:A degree in finance or accountancy, and/or relevant experience in a related field.
Work experience:At least 2 years of experience in financial or other administration, ideally in an international NGO setting
Knowledge of languages:Fluent English (Russian would be an additional advantage)
Computer skills:Proficiency in Excel. Proficiency in other accounting software would be an advantage.
Location:Ideally UK but remote working would be feasible (particularly if within our main countries of operation – Russia, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan)
Other:Knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles. Knowledge of international and UK charity sector (particularly on the financial side). Interest in wildlife conservation or the environment. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Good analytical and writing skills.

Salary:

£15-20/hour depending on experience (all taxes and banking charges included).

Payment conditions:

This is an individual part-time freelance contract (10-20 hours/week) that should include all costs required to produce the above deliverables. Payment will be released in monthly installments on production of time-sheets.
