At the All-Russian Nature Festival “Pristine Russia” that happened recently, the experience of the Astrakhan region in the conservation of the saiga was presented. Within the framework of the thematic day of the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia, entitled “The Elusive World”, the head of the department of the regional service for environmental management Maxim Ivanov made a report.
The guests and participants of the forum were presented with a unique experience in preserving the saiga population of the North-Western Caspian Sea region in the Stepnoi Reserve. Employees of this specially protected natural area in the Limansky District are actively conducting explanatory work with the local people, interacting with international organizations, participating in the implementation of environmental projects of large businesses, and constantly working with young people. Creation of favorable conditions for habitat and reproduction, regular raids to comply with the special protection regime allowed stabilizing the number of relict antelope in the Reserve. Over the past years, there has been a steady trend towards an increase in the population.
At the end of the speech, the audience noted the high level of organization of activities in the Reserve. For the first time in their practice, many representatives of the conservation community got acquainted with the facts of peaceful coexistence with a very cautious and timid cloven-hoofed animal.

На Общероссийском фестивале природы «Первозданная Россия» в минувшую субботу был представлен опыт Астраханской области по сохранению сайгака. В рамках тематического дня Минприроды России под названием «Ускользающий мир» с докладом выступил начальник отдела региональной службы природопользования Максим Иванов.
Гостям и участникам форума был представлен уникальный опыт по сохранению популяции сайгака Северо-Западного Прикаспия в заказнике «Степной». Сотрудники особо охраняемой природной территории в Лиманском районе активно проводят разъяснительную работу с местным населением, взаимодействуют с международными организациями, участвуют в реализации природоохранных проектов крупного бизнеса, постоянно работают с молодёжью. Создание благоприятных условий местообитания и размножения, регулярные рейды по соблюдению режима особой охраны позволили стабилизировать численность реликтовой антилопы в заказнике. На протяжении последних лет наметилась устойчивая тенденция на увеличение популяции.
По окончании выступления аудитория отметила высокий уровень организации деятельности в заказнике. Многие представители природоохранного сообщества впервые в своей практике ознакомились с фактами мирного сосуществования с человеком очень осторожного и пугливого парнокопытного.
