In Moscow on October 14 this year The XVI International Wildlife Festival “Golden Turtle” opened in the exhibition halls of the Union of Artists of Russia of the New Tretyakov Gallery, where 425 photographs of animal photographers from all over the world are presented on an area of 3,000 square meters. In general, this year’s wildlife photography competition received a record number of entries – from more than 4,200 authors from 111 countries. Iberian lynx, hippopotamus, and hundreds of others, including very rare animals.
At the opening ceremony of the Festival, the winners of the competition in the nomination “Reserved Russia” were presented, in which the first winner was a picture of a polar bear called “Ice Throne” by a photographer from the Arkhangelsk region Nikolai Gernet. And the second winner became the work called “Frosty Morning”, where Andrey Gilev captured a saiga inspecting his property in the Stepnoi Reserve in the Astrakhan Region in the early winter morning.
Andrey Gilev – candidate of Biological Sciences, Senior Lecturer, Department of Vertebrate Zoology, St. Petersburg State University. Author and co-author of more than 40 scientific papers. For many years, Andrey and his colleagues have been conducting research on the territory of the Stepnoi Reserve, studying various aspects of the social behavior of the saiga, the asymmetry of their perception of sensory information, and many others. His work to determine the role of artesian wells around which saigas gather in the life of these ungulates and other inhabitants (Karina Karenina, Andrey Gilev. Why artesian steppes? // “Science first hand” No. 3 (63), 2015), has become very significant for planning a network of watering places on the territory of the Stepnoi Reserve and improving the planning of conservation measures.
Visiting the Stepnoi Reserve in different seasons of the year, among whose employees Andrei became, as they say, his own, as an animal photographer, he devotes a lot of time to photo-shooting, of course, first of all, saigas. The photographs taken are not only an important component of the scientific work of Andrey and his colleagues but also an adornment of many environmental publications.

Сайгак из «Степного» на XVI Международном фестивале дикой природы «Золотая черепаха»
В Москве 14 октября с.г. в выставочных залах Союза художников России Новой Третьяковки открылся XVI Международный фестиваль дикой природы «Золотая черепаха», где на площади в 3 тысячи квадратных метров представлено 425 фоторабот художников-анималистов со всего мира. Вообще в этом году на конкурс фотографий дикой природы поступило рекордное количество заявок – от более чем 4200 авторов из 111 стран. Пиренейская рысь, гиппопотам, заяц-беляк, и еще сотни других, в том числе очень редких животных.
На церемонии открытия Фестиваля были представлены победители конкурса в номинации «Заповедная Россия», в которой победил снимок белого медведя под названием «Ледяной трон» фотографа из Архангельской области Николая Гернета. А вот второе место у работы под названием «Морозное утро», на которой Андрей Гилёв запечатлел сайгака, ранним зимним утром осматривающего свои владения в Заказнике «Степной» Астраханской области.
ГИЛЕВ Андрей Николаевич – кандидат биологических наук, старший преподаватель кафедры зоологии позвоночных Санкт-Петербургского государственного университета. Автор и соавтор более 40 научных работ. На протяжении многих лет Андрей со своими коллегами проводит исследования на территории Заказника «Степной», изучая разные аспекты социального поведения сайгака, асимметрии восприятия ими сенсорной информации и др. Работа по определению роли артезианских скважин, вокруг которых собираются сайгаки, в жизни этих копытных и других обитателей (Карина Каренина, Андрей Гилёв. Зачем степи артезианы? // «Наука из первых рук» №3(63), 2015), стала весьма знаменательной для планирования сети водопоев на территории Заказника «Степной» и улучшения планирования мер охраны.
Посещая в разные сезоны года Заказник «Степной», среди сотрудников которых Андрей стал, что называется, своим, как фотограф-анималист он много времени уделяет съемкам, конечно, в первую очередь, сайгаков. Сделанные фотографии – не только важный компонент научной работы Андрея и его коллег, но и украшение многих природоохранных изданий.
