On May 11-12, 2023, children from the villages of Jaslyk and Kyrk-kyz – students of secondary schools No. 31 and 54 performed in front of the audience of Jaslyk and Muynak with a wonderful performance “Susambil”. Susambil is a fairy-tail country of happiness, where peace and tranquility reign, where are pastures with thick grass, streams with clear water, where there is no suffering and pain, and everyone strives to get there. Our Susambil is a beautiful steppe in the middle of the Aralkum sands, where animals live in harmony with each other and the environment. “Migratory animals: goitered gazelle, saiga, flamingo, golden eagle, bustard wander in search of this place. In their homeland there is no grass, and there is very little of clean water. There are poachers in their homeland who kill animals for meat and sell their horns. Many of their parents, brothers and sisters died. Those who remained alive are looking for Susambil …”
The performance was the first experience for children to not just tell a story. Having reincarnated as their heroes, having studied their habits, delved into their problems, the guys tried to let the story through the prism of their consciousness and even a little life experience. In the course of the performance, children who had personal experience of living in an ecological disaster zone – in the Aral Sea region, in Ustyurt, shared what worries them, told how environmental changes affect their daily life, the lives of their families and the fate of their villages. By sharing their stories, the guys interacted with the audience, emotionally involving and making everyone present involved.
According to the idea of the author of the performance, the experiences of children coincide with the experiences of animals that, like saiga, goitered gazelle, golden eagle and bustard, are endangered, including due to poaching and the problem of lack of water.
Playing roles as animals, the children told how it is possible to build Susambil – an ecological paradise where only animals live and where there is no place for humans. However, by the end of the performance, they came to the conclusion that Susambil should be built by everyone together – on their own land, in their own village, so that both people and animals would be happy, in order to jointly eradicate poaching and find access to clean water.
“Both schools showed their approach to creating the play,” said director Robert Willard, “some wanted to work with puppets, others wanted to portray animals with the help of plasticity. Some wanted to tell the story of their village, others wanted to share stories about life on the Aral Sea, preserved in the memory of their grandparents. An important part of the performance was the children’s co-creation in writing the script,” continued Robert, “the participants collected documentary material from the elderly residents of the village, and retold them from memory, they also shared their worries and dreams”.
The performance appealed to viewers of different ages, encouraging them to empathize and think about how to make life better. This was the first collaboration between the Saiga Conservation Alliance and the World Aral region charity (WARC), https://www.aralregioncharity.org/. The Fund collected donations for the purchase and installation of a reverse osmosis filter at school 54 in the village of Jaslyk to provide children with clean water. “We hope,” eighth grade students said, “that our creativity will lead to real good changes in the village.”

Школьники из двух отдаленных поселков Узбекистана представили экологический спектакль «Сусамбиль» на Дне сайгака
11- 12 мая 2023 г. ребята из поселков Жаслык и Кырк-кыз – ученики средних школ №31 и 54 выступили перед зрителями Жаслыка и Муйнака с замечательным спектаклем «Сусамбиль». Сусамбиль – это сказочная страна счастья, где царит мир и покой, где пастбища с густой травой, ручьи с чистой водой, где нет страданий и боли, и все стремятся туда попасть. Наш Сусамбиль – это прекрасная степь посреди песков Аралкума, где звери живут в гармонии друг с другом и окружающей средой. «Мигрирующие животные: джейран, сайгак, фламинго, беркут, дрофа кочуют в поисках этого места. На их родине нет травы, мало чистой воды. Там на родине браконьеры, которые убивают зверей ради мяса, и продают их рога. Многие из их родителей, братьев и сестер погибли. Те, кто остались живыми ищут Сусамбиль…»
Спектакль был первым опытом для детей не просто рассказать историю. Перевоплотившись в своих героев, изучив их повадки, вникнув их проблемы, ребята попытались пропустить ее через призму своего сознания и пусть небольшого жизненного опыта. По ходу представления, дети, имеющие личный опыт жизни в зоне экологического бедствия – в Приаралье, на Устюрте, делились тем, что их волнует, рассказывали, как экологические изменения отражаются на их ежедневной жизни, жизни их семей и судьбе их поселков. Делясь своими историями, ребята взаимодействовали со зрительным залом, эмоционально вовлекая и делая причастными всех присутствующих.
По замыслу автора спектакля переживания детей совпадают с переживаниями животных, которые, как сайгак, джейран, беркут и дрофа находятся под угрозой исчезновения, в том числе из-за браконьерства и проблемы недостатка воды.
Изображая животных, дети рассказали, как возможно построить Сусамбиль – экологический рай, где живут только животные и где нет места человеку. Однако, к концу спектакля они пришли к выводу, что Сусамбиль надо строить всем вместе – на своей земле, в своем поселке, чтобы и людям, и животным было хорошо, чтобы сообща искоренить браконьерство и найти доступ к чистой воде.
«Обе школы продемонстрировали свой подход при создании спектакля, – сказал режиссёр Роберт Виллард (Robert Willard), – одни хотели работать с куклами, другие изображать зверей с помощью пластики. Одни хотели рассказать историю своего поселка, другие хотели поделиться историями о жизни на Аральском море, сохранившимися в памяти их дедушек и бабушек. Важной частью спектакля было сотворчество детей в написании сценария, – продолжил Роберт, – участники собирали документальный материал у пожилых жителей посёлка, и пересказывали их по памяти, они также делились своим беспокойством и мечтами».
Спектакль пришелся по душе зрителям разных возрастов, заставив их сопереживать и задуматься как сделать жизнь лучше. Это был первый опыт сотрудничества Альянса по Сохранению сайгака с благотворительной организацией World Aral region charity (WARC), https://www.aralregioncharity.org/. Фондом были собраны пожертвования на приобретение и установку фильтра обратного осмоса в школе 54 поселка Жаслык для обеспечения детей чистой водой. «Мы надеемся, – сказали ученики восьмого класса, – что наше творчество приведет к настоящим хорошим переменам в посёлке».
