On November 13-14, 2023, Alexander Esipov and Dmitry Golovtsov on behalf of SCA conducted training on the use of camera traps for employees of the newly created Aralkum National Natural Park (NPP). The first day of the training took place in Muynak. The training participants from the inspection department and the scientific department listened to a theoretical part about the history of the use of camera traps in the world and Uzbekistan, as well as the technical features of the Bushnell Core S-4K model, which they will soon use to register animals.
On behalf of the Resurrection Island project, the first 4 Bushnell Core S-4K cameras with power supplies and a double set of memory cards were transferred to the Aralkum National Natural Park for use in monitoring the wildlife of the park.
On the second day of the training, a trip to the territory of the national park was organized, during which the skills of installing camera traps and setting them up were practiced.
The training on the method of monitoring wildlife using camera traps is taking place within the framework of the Saiga Conservation Alliance “Resurrection Island” program with the participation of the Institute of Zoology of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan and financial support from the British PTES (People’s Trust for Endangered Species) Foundation. The five-year PTES Conservation Partnerships project aims to support SCA’s efforts to conserve saiga and the biodiversity of Resurrection Island.
