What information we collect

Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect your name and email address when you contact us; messages and other information you send through our Contact Us or Work With Us forms; your email address if you subscribe to our mailing list; information about donations made in support of SCA; donor contact details, preferences and related donation information received from Wildlife Conservation Network (WCN) and PayPal; IP addresses and other technical information used for website security and spam prevention; and information about how visitors use our website through Google Analytics.

As part of our conservation and education activities, we may collect and use photographs of participants, including children and young people, where appropriate permissions have been obtained.

How we use your information

Contact Us and Work With Us forms

If you contact us, we use the information you provide to respond to your enquiry and manage any necessary follow-up.

We rely on our legitimate interests in communicating with people who contact us and managing SCA’s activities.
Form submissions are stored in the website admin area and are also sent to our email inbox. We use Resend to deliver these form messages by email.

We normally keep Contact Us and Work With Us submissions for up to 12 months from the date they are received, unless we need to keep them for longer for a legitimate or legal reason.

We also use technical measures such as rate limiting, bot detection and message filtering to help protect our forms from spam and abuse. These measures may involve processing IP addresses and related technical information.

We do not automatically add people who contact us to our mailing list.

Mailing list
If you subscribe to our mailing list, we collect your email address only.

Newsletter sign-ups are added to our General Mailing List in Mailchimp.

We use Mailchimp to send SCA news, conservation updates, information about our activities, fundraising opportunities and ways to support our work.

We rely on your consent for these communications.
Mailchimp also provides us with information about email engagement, such as whether an email was opened or a link was clicked. We use this information to understand and improve our communications.

You can unsubscribe at any time using the unsubscribe link in our emails.

Donations

Wildlife Conservation Network

The Saiga Conservation Alliance is a Conservation Partner of Wildlife Conservation Network (WCN). As part of this relationship, WCN supports SCA’s conservation work and facilitates donations made in support of SCA.

When a donor supports SCA through WCN, WCN may provide us with identifiable information relating to that donation.

Depending on the donation, this may include name and contact details, postal address, donation amount and date, recurring donation information, anonymity and recognition preferences, tribute information, donor relationship information and administrative information connected with the donation.

We use this information to administer and acknowledge donations, maintain appropriate records, respect donor preferences, manage relationships with supporters and meet applicable legal and financial obligations.

We do not automatically add WCN donors to our mailing list.

PayPal

If you donate through PayPal, you are taken to PayPal to complete the transaction.

PayPal processes the payment and may provide SCA with information such as your name, email address, postal address, donation amount, transaction date and transaction reference.

We use this information to administer donations, maintain records and communicate with donors about their contribution.

We do not receive your full payment-card details from PayPal.

We do not automatically add PayPal donors to our mailing list.

Website, cookies and analytics

Our website is built using WordPress and hosted by HostGator.com, LLC in a data centre in Phoenix, Arizona, United States.

We use Google Analytics to produce aggregate statistics about how our website is used so that we can understand website traffic and improve our content and performance.

Our Google Analytics setup is configured with privacy-focused settings. Google Signals and advertising personalisation are disabled, granular location and device data is disabled, no Google Ads account is linked, and analytics data is retained for 2 months.

Google Analytics is used for aggregate statistical purposes rather than advertising or profiling individual visitors.

You can object to Analytics at any time using the Analytics opt-out option in the website footer.

Analytics is also not loaded when a supported privacy signal, such as Global Privacy Control, is received.

Google Consent Mode is enabled with advertising-related storage and personalisation set to denied.

Our website does not currently use other non-essential tracking services besides Google Analytics.

Cookies
Our website may use cookies and similar technologies needed for basic website functionality and for Google Analytics.

We use Google Analytics for statistical purposes to understand how visitors use our website and to improve it. Our Analytics configuration is intended to collect aggregate website statistics rather than identify, profile or advertise to individual visitors.

You can opt out of Analytics at any time using the Analytics opt-out link in the website footer.

Social media links

Our website contains links to external platforms including YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, X and LinkedIn.

These are links only, not embedded social-media feeds or tracking tools. If you follow one of these links, you leave the SCA website and the relevant platform’s own privacy policy and terms will apply.

Who we share information with

Where necessary, personal information may be processed by organisations that help us operate SCA and provide our services.

These include Mailchimp for mailing-list management and email communications, Google for email and website analytics, Resend for sending Contact Us and Work With Us form messages to our email inbox, HostGator for website hosting, Wildlife Conservation Network for partnership and donation-related activities, and PayPal for donation processing.

We may also disclose personal information where required by law.

We do not sell personal information.

International transfers

Some of the organisations we use process or store personal information outside the United Kingdom, including in the United States.

This includes our website hosting in Phoenix, Arizona, and may include services provided by Mailchimp, Google, Resend and PayPal.

Where SCA is responsible for transferring personal information outside the UK, we use appropriate safeguards where required by law.

WCN also provides donor information to SCA from the United States.

You can contact us at saigaalliance@gmail.com if you would like more information about international transfers.

How long we keep information

We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary.

Contact Us and Work With Us submissions are normally kept for up to 12 months from the date received.

Mailing-list information is kept until you unsubscribe. Limited information may be retained after an unsubscribe where necessary to ensure that your preference is respected.

Donation and accounting records are normally kept for 6 years after the end of the relevant financial year where required for legal or accounting purposes.

Other donor relationship information is reviewed at least every 2 years and deleted when no longer needed.

Google Analytics data is retained for 2 months.

How we protect your information

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against loss, misuse, unauthorised access or disclosure.

These measures include HTTPS, modern security headers, protection against repeated login attempts, rate limiting and other website security controls.

Access to personal information is limited to people who need it for legitimate SCA activities.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law, depending on the circumstances, you may have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, have inaccurate information corrected, ask us to delete information, restrict or object to certain uses of your information, receive certain information in a portable format, and withdraw consent where we rely on consent.

You can object to direct marketing at any time, including by using the unsubscribe link in our emails.

To exercise your rights, contact saigaalliance@gmail.com.

You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) if you have concerns about how we use your personal information.

External links

Our website contains links to external websites, including WCN, PayPal and social-media platforms.

Those organisations have their own privacy policies and are responsible for how they handle information you provide directly to them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when our activities, website or use of personal information changes.

The latest version will be published on this page with an updated date.
