Our work
International Cooperation & Policy
Connecting countries, knowledge, and action for saigas.
We connect governments, researchers, and conservation partners across borders, supporting international agreements, bringing evidence into policy discussions, and helping coordinate action to protect saigas throughout their range.

Conserving a species across borders
Saigas move across national boundaries, while the threats they face - including illegal trade - can extend far beyond the places where they live. Protecting them requires countries and organisations to work together, even when their priorities, resources, and approaches differ.
International agreements provide an important framework, but they are only part of the picture. The challenge is to bring together evidence and expertise from across the saiga conservation community, build shared priorities, and support coordinated action as circumstances change.
Our role
What SCA does
Supporting international agreements
We contribute technical expertise and coordination to the CMS Saiga MoU and its international work programme, helping partners agree priorities and support their implementation.
Informing international trade policy
We bring research and conservation expertise into CITES discussions, helping inform decisions about international trade in saiga products.
Strengthening cross-border cooperation
We connect researchers, conservation organisations, and government agencies to share knowledge, build enforcement capacity, and address threats that extend beyond national borders.

Looking ahead
Turning international commitments into lasting action
As saiga populations recover, countries and conservation partners will need to work closely together to address changing priorities. The focus is on delivering agreed conservation measures, sharing knowledge across borders, and ensuring that international decisions reflect the needs of saigas throughout their range.
SCA will continue supporting implementation of the CMS Saiga MoU’s work programme, contributing evidence to CITES discussions, and strengthening cooperation between range and consumer states so that partners can respond to new challenges together.
