Biases in Saiga Aerial Surveys - A. McConville

Student Research Project Research & Monitoring Kazakhstan 2006 ← Back to archive

Andrew-John McConville investigated biases in aerial survey techniques used to estimate saiga numbers in Kazakhstan. The research examined how survey methods themselves can influence population estimates and explored the factors that need to be considered when interpreting aerial-count data.

The study strengthened understanding of the limitations of a key monitoring method and highlighted why apparent population estimates need to be interpreted carefully. This contributed to the methodological evidence available for improving saiga surveys and assessing population trends.
