Participatory Monitoring of Saigas in Kalmykia - L. Dorward
Leejiah Dorward assessed participatory monitoring of saigas in Kalmykia, Russia, in a context where conventional monitoring had faced difficulties. The research examined whether information collected with local participation could provide a useful and credible way to understand saiga presence and distribution.
The study helped evaluate the strengths and limitations of involving local people in saiga monitoring and added evidence on how participatory approaches could complement formal survey methods. It also demonstrated the value of connecting local knowledge with conservation research.
