Project
Stepnoi: A Place for Saigas and People - V. Kalmykov
Vladimir Kalmykov developed a project at Stepnoi Reserve built around both protecting saigas and engaging people. Activities included communication with local villagers, shepherds and farmers, plans for visitor access and an ecological trail, alongside practical support for continued ranger monitoring and protection.
By bringing local communication, visitor engagement and ranger needs into the same project, the grant reinforced the reserve’s role as both a protected area and a focal point for saiga awareness.
