Project
Stepnoi Community Outreach, Ecotourism and Ranger Support - V. Kalmykov
Vladimir Kalmykov developed activities at Stepnoi focused on the local villagers, shepherds and farmers whose support is important for saiga conservation. Plans included a dedicated information leaflet, lectures and meetings in nearby communities, visitor activities and an ecological trail, alongside fuel and vehicle support for continued ranger patrols.
This work strengthened both the reserve’s relationship with surrounding communities and its day-to-day capacity to monitor and protect saigas.
